a 'just in general' blog

It's been awhile since I've actually *blogged*, so here goes. (this is cross-blogged at my myspace as well)

First of all, Catherine is keeping me SO busy. It's a happy busy though. I have decided that "Loah" is the single sweetest sound in the world. She says it a lot :) Anissa said she was looking for me last weekend--running from one end of the house to the other saying "Loah! Loah!"

Funny Catherine story: we went to Lifeway the other day. You know how the categories of books are set up, right? "Singles", "Women" on on shelf facing the "Family" shelf (and on the other side is "marriage" and somewhere around there is "men"). Anissa had asked me to look for a certain book for them, so I was in the "Family" section doing so. Catherine was beside me walking around. She went to the "Singles" section, picked up a book and brought it to me. I giggled at the irony and put it back. A few minutes later...same thing. This happened about 5 times--always the same book. How sad is it that the child I nanny for thinks I need help in this area?!
(on the other hand, perhaps I should go back and buy that book. Perhaps the little one knows something )

Moving on past Catherine--I experienced Closet Trauma this weekend. Apparently in my recovery I have gained a lot of weight and none of my clothes from last year at this time look or feel right. Sunday morning was horrid. There are still pieces that I threw across the room in the exact spot they landed. Argh. It did call for an emergency shopping trip for new clothes though--and though I'm not completely thrilled with the sizes on the labels they DO look good. And I'm trying to decide that I do too.

Last, for all you out there who have called or emailed me and not received a response...I am truly sorry. I was experiencing what some of us at church call "After-Zoe Week" last week. Zoe is SUCH a high that we all go into a funk of sorts the following week...and I just didn't have the energy to do much. I'm much better this week though...and eventually I'll get around to contacting you!

I'm Having a Customer Appreciation Event!

I desperately need to clear out some stock to make room for new stuff that I have created in my head...so with that said:

ALL RETURNING CUSTOMERS will receive 20% off their entire purchase from my shop, from now until Sept 30. This is a GREAT time to get some early Christmas shopping done or to spoil yourself with something new!

To receive this discount, simply choose "other" as payment method and enter the code SEPT20 in seller notes. Then wait for an adjusted invoice to come from me!

Haven't bought anything from my store, or want to share the wealth with a friend? No problem.

ALL NEW CUSTOMERS receive 10% off their entire first order during this week...and if they order again before Sept 30 they can use the 20% off code.

To receive the new customer discount, simply follow the instructions above and enter SEPT10 in the seller notes.

These are NOT advertised in my shop, so only those that use the code receive the discount.

Thanks for your business!

EtsyOWLs cross-blog...Stellar Seller, Sept 21

Friday, September 21st, 2007
Suenosdejmi, also known in the physical world as Jamie, is this week's stellar seller. She's V-P of the Etsy Owls & has been on Etsy for almost a year. Check her shop out at
And read her interview!!!!

Tell us all about you, as much or as little as you'd love to share with the Etsy world. :)
Well, I'm Jamie, I'm 24, & I'm a college student born, mostly raised, & living in East Tennessee. I've been crocheting for, seriously, as long as I can remember. I learned from my mom & my grandmother (my dad's mom), both of who are awesome craftastic women. I have a blanket I've been crocheting since I was that little...probably 8 or 9 or so, and it's only just now reached around 3 feet wide (it's about 7 or 8 feet long...). You can look at it and see the progress I've made over the years with my crocheting. It's quite amazing.
If that didn't clue you in, I really don't do well with projects that take a long time...I have a seriously short attention span. So, I enjoy making scarves because they're fairly quick & creative. :)
Um...what else? Okay, so college student. I have my Associates degree in Spanish, and I'm almost finished with my Bachelors in Cross-Cultural Sociology & Spanish. Hopefully, I will be spending my last undergraduate semester in Spain! (So buy things from me, because it'll help me get there!!!) After that, I'm probably going to graduate school at East Tennessee State University for Appalachian Studies.

I'm not married, but hopefully I will be eventually, to my total sweetie of the last 2 & a half years :)
What is your shop about & how did you get started???
Well, my shop is all about crocheting, and the occasional
beaded/buttoned/tied piece of jewelry. I like experimenting
with jewelry, but I'm not into it enough to make it full time. I just buy lots of beads & pretend :)
I opened my Etsy shop up last November, but didn't really get active until this past June or so. I started my shop as an outlet for my crocheted scarves, because I got totally into the habit of making them in classes & wanted an excuse to keep crocheting habitually. So, now I have my excuse, & I'm having tons of fun with it. :)

What inspires you to create?
Color. Lots of color. I see a certain color combination somewhere, like in a bouquet of plastic flowers, and suddenly I'm inspired to see them poured out in stitches across a scarf. I like lots of color in my pieces, so it's quite rare that I'll make a scarf with just one color in it. I'm sort of a biased designer in the sense that I design for what I like, and less for what others might like. I have to be in love with my pieces, or I can't keep going. I suppose my creation process is the same for my writing (I write poetry), I get inspired by what's going on in the world around me. I want to push all that activity into a poem, or a scarf, or a unique little bracelet, & send it out into the world to exist. That's the magic that is art.

Describe yourself in 1 word:
Just one? I'm always horrible at these....I would probably have to say....eclectic

What's your favorite:
Book: there's sooo many...but, Harry Potter (either 3, 5, 6, 0r 7), Love Medicine by Louise Erdrich, or about 100 others...:)
Movie: again, HP 3, which is Prisoner of Azkaban, or Coyote Ugly. I'm picky about movies so not quite as many as books, but definitely more.
Song: Can't pick one. I would have to say Natalie Imbruglia "Troubled by the Way We Came Together", and almost any song by Jewel, Evanescence, or Shakira. :)

Thursday's Ten

Ten Goals for the Next Ten Years

1. get my Master's degree (in *something*)
2. join the FBI (I am completely freakin' serious!)
3. either be married with children, or have adopted a child
4. own a house in Franklin (or surrounding area)
5. be debt-free, as much as possible (I'm very close to it now, but I want that to continue!)
6. volunteer at or open a center that counsels young girls with EDs
7. have regular, good sleep habits
8. have traveled to Ireland (it's the 5 year plan, actually), most of the US that is on my list, Australia and Spain.
9. have good contact with the friends I've met and loved along the way
10. continue to live life without regrets.

I'd say that's a lot to achieve in 10 years, but I think with a lot of prayer, faith and determination I'll be there...or in a place even better than I could imagine.

(cross posting this in my blog at myspace)

A New Fan is Bourne

Ok, before anyone points it out...yes, I realize what a cheesy title that is :0)

SO. Yesterday I sped back to 3rd service from our youth retreat, and a few of us went to lunch afterwards. Randy and Calvin started talking about how they had gone to see the 3rd Bourne movie the day before and it happened to come up that I had never seen any of the movies. Which led to Randy saying 'well you must come over tonight at watch the first', which led to us planning a taco salad buffet and getting to R & LJ's house about 2.5 hours after we finished lunch :)

I totally loved the first movie. C & K had to leave when it was over, but Randy looked at me and said... "I happen to have the second movie in our video cabinet if you're interested...

What's a girl to do? Of course I said "bring it on"

So I now have to see the 3rd movie. Anyone up for going in the next few days? Anyone?

Just Getting Started

Hello everyone!

Not a whole lot to tell at this moment. Catherine is napping away upstairs, so I had enough time to set this thing up! Tonight I leave for our church's youth group retreat (I volunteer with them). We'll be in lovely Dickson, Tennessee...away from all phones and internet. We're a little cut off from the rest of the world, but I always have a fabulous time :)
