hey, it's ok (tuesday) 11.1

hey, it's ok

...to be in shock at the fact that it's november.  n.o.v.e.m.b.e.r. people!
...to love the fact that baby g sleeps longer in the mornings now.  i get a whole hour to myself most tuesdays and thursdays!  this means i can 'nap', play online, or catch up on a show...love.
...to be hopeful that the eye appointment i have in a couple of weeks will show that my eye is improving.  i'd rather not have to wear one day contacts for years.  they are expensive!
...to not be sure whether the harvard sweatshirt i'm wearing is mine or my husbands.  i don't remember having it, but it was on my side of the closet.  the fact that it's an xl though likely means it's not mine.
...to be thankful the family i nanny for has finally turned the heat on consistently.  i was a bit tired of frozen appendages!
...to still bump up their heat a bit because apparently i'm a bit (lot) more cold natured than they are
...to be craving candy corn pretty much all the time from september through november
...to not know where to begin in showing you wedding photos and telling the story.  what do you think?
...to feel the itch to create.  i need to make some jewelry or something, stat.
...to feel a huge sense of accomplishment that your google reader is ALMOST caught up. woo-hoo!
...to feel like this is a lame/boring list.  um...sorry?

(go visit amber for the original!)

Thursday's Ten: to be a kid again

when's the last time you just acted like a kid?  sometimes we take ourselves waaay too seriously, you know?  so here's my little list for you today.

1.  go swing on the swings at a local playground, or play on the slides
2.  play tag.  or hide and seek.  or flashlight tag (the best of both!)
3.  dance in the rain
4.  actually PLAY with children -- yours if you are blessed with them...and if you're now, i'm certain you can find a parent who will gladly loan you a child or two for a few hours ;-)
5.  eat candy.  not a lot, but remember how you used to love ________ as a kid?  go have some!
6.  have a popsicle.  it'll bring back a rush of memories.
7.  read children's books.  sometimes there are truths in there that span the ages...and sometime they are just plain fun.
8.  use FUN dishes and silverware.  a touch of whimsy in your kitchen or other home decor is nice
9.  keep a few stuffed animals tucked away -- or use them in decor as well
10.  go to events at children's places that are meant for adults :)

(see, there IS a point for this post)

last week anthony and i went to the adventure science center for the "way late play date"
it's a 21 and up event, and yes there are 21 and up beverages served
(2 free drink tickets per person)
we played around with several exhibits
although we spent most of our time in the planetarium
once for a demo of the stars and stuff
and again for a separately ticketed laser show of U2 music
(i was *thrilled*)

pics you say?
here ya go
(all taken with my phone, so sorry they aren't crazy good quality)

 blurry pics of our entrance

 anthony makes a tornado
we thought this was a green screen until we walked in front.  colors changed as we moved.  pretty fun.
haven't played with one of these since middle school!
the heat thermal screens were way cool
pretending to pick each other's noses because we're dorks
 we played this weird game
and neither of us won. some random person came and joined and then left so we never saw our scores.
boo.
we did giggle at this poster
not the greatest shot, but you CAN see the skyline from the planetarium wing and it's uber-cool
so my point?  go have FUN today!

Thursday's Ten: yummy!

for a myriad of reasons and new convictions, i'm choosing not to observe october 31st this year as anything other than a sunday where i will be together with friends eating, laughing and (yes) watching a couple of movies.  one will be "scary" but does not in any way glorify the day we aren't observing.

i realize this is kind of a polar opposite switch from my stance on the day last year...but i am kind of wrestling through some things and how i want to live my life.  so while i reluctantly participated in the trunk or treat at my church last weekend, will be watching a couple of thriller movies this weekend (which is find to me only because they are thrillers and not specifically about the day), and bought some obligatory candy to eat i will not be observing the date until further notice.

i'll be happy to explain, although all i have right now is how i feel.  and i'm certainly not going to tell anyone else what to do or tell people they can't enjoy the day or celebrate.

it's just not for me.

i'll be happy to share more in depth what has led me to my non-observance this year if you like...although honestly right now it has more to do with feeling convicted about it than anything else.  i'll be doing research and a whole lot of praying before (a) next year and *definitely* before (b) we have children.

so, i'm not doing a theme this week about costumes or trick or treating or anything else specifically linked to the day...

but i think it's still fun.

what are your 10 favorite...
