thursday's ten: about love

it's all about love here on the blog today, of COURSE :)
here's a few quotes and photos that i've collected over the last few weeks.  from the little old couple on the hammock who i hope to be someday, to the wise words of Mother Teresa, these are things that spoke to my heart.  may they also speak to you.

(original photo links can be found by clicking on the pictures :)

Love me when I least deserve it, because that's when I really need it.
- Swedish proverb

“Love is a temporary madness; it erupts like volcanoes and then subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of eternal passion. That is just being in love, which any fool can do. Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident. Those that truly love have roots that grow towards each other underground, and when all the pretty blossoms have fallen from their branches, they find that they are one tree and not two.”
- Louis de Bernieres

The best thing in life is finding someone who knows all your mistakes and weaknesses and still thinks you're completely amazing
- unknown

It is a risk to love. What if it doesn't work out? Ah, but what if it does.
- Peter McWilliams

Do you want me to tell you something really subversive? Love is everything it's cracked up to be. That's why people are so cynical about it. It really is worth fighting for, being brave for, risking everything for. And the trouble is, if you don't risk everything, you risk even more
- Erica Jong

I have found the paradox that if I love until it hurts there can be no

more hurt, only more love.
- Mother Teresa

told you i'd be more positive...

i watched grey's anatomy tonight, as per my usual
and the end quote struck me, as it often does
i've shared the wisdom so often evident in those final words
on other blog posts of mine (like here and here)
and this one had to be shared too.

as a wanna-be runner...these words can easily be applied to the hiking, jogging, and 5Ks that i do.

they can also be applied to my current state of mind.
and i have hope, that i'm still scaling the side of this particular mountain.

wisdom of grey's:

they take pictures of mountain climbers at the top of the mountain
they're smiling
estatic
triumphant

they don't take pictures along the way
cause who wants to remember the rest of it?
we push ourselves because we have to
not because we like it

the relentless climb
the pain and anguish of taking it to the next level

nobody takes pictures of that

nobody wants to remember

we just want to remember the view from the top
the breathtaking moment at the edge of the world

that's what keeps us climbing
and it's worth the pain

that's the crazy part

it's worth anything.

- Grey's Anatomy, 2010

Thursday's Ten: Notable Quotes (but NOT about the Piggy Flu)

So...welcome to this week's edition of Thursday's Ten. Pardon my sniffles!
(actually I'm doing much better...just really really really tired)

I thought about doing ten awful times you've been sick (mine would have been topped by the Christmas Eve/Day illness when I was a senior in high school...the ER visit and all), or ten things about pigs...but instead decided to do something a little more relevant to all of us!

SO, ten favorite quotes. I've already done this once here, but I'm always finding or rediscovering new quotes!

"I believe in pink. I believe laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing; kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day, and I believe in miracles."
- Audrey Hepburn

“I have heard there are troubles of more than one kind. Some come from ahead and some come from behind.
But I've bought a big bat. I'm all ready you see.
Now my troubles are going to have troubles with me!”
- Dr Seuss

"a person gets to have her whole life"
(Private Practice)

"Being aware of your crap and actually overcoming your crap are two very different things"
(Grey's Anatomy)

"The fact that children can make beautiful music is less significant than the fact that music can make children beautiful"
- Cheryl Lavender

"Everything has beauty. Not everyone sees it."
-Ghandi

"The feeling remains that God is on the journey too."
-Teresa of Avila

"Use what talents you possess. The woods would be very silent if no birds sang there except those that sang best."
- William Blake

"There are two ways of spreading light: to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it."
-Edith Wharton

And a bonus because it always makes me think

"I do not reject your Christ, I love your Christ. It is just that so many of you Christians are so unlike your Christ."
-Gandhi

You're familiar--grab the button and sign mcklinky and then share some of your favorite quotes!

ALSO--next week's will be 10 things you're thankful for (and we'll do it on Wednesday so everyone can do their Thanksgiving thing). Plus, if you have any suggestions for future lists I'd love to hear them! I've been doing Thursday's Ten for years, but somehow doing lists that are relevant to more people are a little harder than just coming up with my own :)

Rambling of Faith

Mother Teresa: one of my faith heroes and childhood icons.

Now recognized as a saint, I believe.

When asked once what she thought the first thing she would say to God when she got to Heaven she replied "I think it will be 'You have a lot of explaining to do'"

This quote makes me feel SO much better.

Because there are those times when that's exactly how I feel. That there's just so much I don't understand.

It reminds me that Mother Teresa, while a giant in her faith, struggled just like I do.

I don't know why my friend was just diagnosed with cancer.
I don't know why my friend's father's spinal cord looks like swiss cheese due to a mass eating away part of his vertebrae.
I don't know why so many people are unemployed.
I don't know why...

But I do know WHO.

And that...that makes all the difference.

Thursday's Ten -- more great quotes

Today I have a lot to say.

There is so much on my mind, heart and it all wants to burst forth...but it can't yet. I have some formulating and processing to do before that happens.

So in that interest, let me share the words of others that have inspired me, made me laugh...or just made me think. May one of them strike a similar chord with you.

(oh, and this isn't nearly as emo and melodramatic as it sounds. Most of the things I have to share are good things, I'm just trying to formulate the best time and way TO share.)

Ten Quotes that I Love

Thursday's Ten - Quotes

Ten Quotes that I Love

"There's an old proverb that says you can't choose your family. You take what fate hands you. And like them or not, love them or not, understand them or not, you cope. Then there's the school of thought that says the family you're born into is simply a starting point. They feed you, clothe you, and take care of you until you're ready to go out into the world. There you find your own tribe."
-Grey's Anatomy

"The only work that will ultimately bring any good to any of us is the work of contributing to the healing of the world. "
- Marianne Williamson

"It is not necessary to change. Survival is not mandatory."
- W. Edwards Deming

"Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming"
- Dory, Finding Nemo

"If you've got one drink and one friend and 45 minutes. Slow rides make for boring stories. A little calamity...now that's worth talking about"
- Grey's Anatomy

- Dar Williams

"Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love."
- St Francis of Assisi

"I get by with a little help from my friends"
- John Lennon

"Be the change that you want to see in the world"
- Gandhi

“A man who wants to lead the orchestra must turn his back on the crowd.”
