hey, it's ok (tuesday) .4

 hey, it's ok!

...to possibly love wrapping the presents as much as anything else at this time of year
...to think that those fruit in a pouch deals for babies and toddlers are pretty awesome...and to consider adding a few to your own pantry since you never eat fruit and this would be one way to change that
...to giggle a bit at the baby terrorizing the cat before actually stopping said baby from said terrorizing
(really all he was doing was standing at the chair she was sitting in and reaching out to pet her.)
...to realize that a good number of your "hey it's ok" points involve children when you don't even have kids yet
...to get a little giddy about "the sing off"
...to kind of wish you could hibernate for this season because it's COLD
...to have been slightly freaked out when the mother of a couple of your students placed an albino ferret in your arms when you were dropping off some music at their house, followed by the realization that the animal was actually quite adorable and very snuggly!

it's a great day for more conferencing!

quick explanation of the wordle i do (most) every saturday, because some of you are new around here:

a couple of years ago (i think) i stumbled across a blog thing called "weekend wordle". i discovered it about the same time as i found "six word saturday"...actually i think it was because my blog buddy megan was participating in both!

anyway, i stopped doing both for awhile because my weekends are so crazy, and when i started back up i discovered that blog hosting the "weekend wordle" was not really staying active with it any longer. however, i thought it was fun enough to keep going!

if you want to play along, you can find the place to make the wordle here. just type in your blog address and wait for it to create! you can play around with fonts and colors, although i usually just leave it at random.

like this week's.  totally random.

and now for a blog thing that is VERY active :)

those e.d. commercials make me squirm!

seriously, have you noticed that?  all about turning normal moments into romantic ones, 4 hours, blah blah.  i'm thrilled that couples can enjoy each other's company in that way with medical aid...but i'd rather not watch 6 commercials regarding the ways in which that happens while i'm simply trying to take in this week's episode of csi:ny!

today's events include another prophetic conference...so that means that literally anything could happen!   it's sure to be an exciting day, that much is for sure :-)

have a good one!

Thursday's Ten: thanksgiving '10

(you should all participate in this one. just sayin')

today i am thankful

- for the table we will gather at with anthony's family.  for them, their hospitality, and their immediate acceptance of me.  and that they asked me to bring something that's traditional in MY family today so i'm bringing green bean casserole and pumpkin pie.  and so incredibly grateful i didn't get a preparatory letter like this one with instructions. (read it.  you'll laugh)

- for the man i love and our time together so far...and for SO.MUCH to look forward to.  for future plans that excite me, for knowing that he loves God more than he loves me...so the balance is alllll gooooood.  and that he's a dork, just like me.

- for emi, who scrunches her face up into "her" chair, who sits on the piano bench more often than i do, who jumps up on the bed to be loved on as soon as i walk in the door, who runs to greet me when i arrive, who sometimes just runs around the house like a crazed animal, who is stingy (but rewarding) with her purrs, who loves to chase a laser light, and who most nights will cuddle with me at bedtime just for a little while.

- for life in the garden, in the herb planters.  and that i've managed to keep a cilantro plant alive for a whole month now.

-  for the fact that i just drove to anthony's apartment with my sunroof open.  on thanksgiving day, people.  it's in the 70s today :D
(and yes, it'll be cold tomorrow.  but i can be thankful for warm weather on thanksgiving!)

- for friends who get me.  and for those who don't, but accept that i'm a little crazy ;-)

- for the spiritual communities that have shaped my faith.  this journey has been a wild ride, for SURE  but i've told many people to buckle up and raise their hands because it's the ultimate thrill ride!

- for the privilege of being called to live this way.  so completely dependent on God for provision and strength that i pretty much live just like this quote:
"But God doesn't call us to be comfortable. He calls us to trust Him so completely that we are unafraid to put ourselves in situations where we will be in trouble if He doesn't come through"
(Francis Chan)

- for my wii, dvr, laptop and iphone that serve as distractions when i need them, entertainment when i'm lacking, exercise when it's hot/cold/rainy, and connections with those i love. yes, all of them have their downsides, but using them for their intended purpose has been a blessing

- for so many countless things in addition: my dog magnet that has dogs of all shapes, sizes and breeds flocking to me and giving me affection.  for starbucks and my ridiculous collection of travel mugs.  for road trips with friends.  for snuggles on the couch.  for naps.  for worship.  for babies and the privilege of watching them grow.  for the families who have supported me and entrusted me with their most valuable possessions -- their children.  for learning about and beginning to operate more fully in my giftings.  for laughter.  for family.  for so.much.more.

and of course...for all of you.  who come here and read what i have to say, who humble me with the way you respond, who encourage me with your friendship.  i started blogging just for me, and i'm ever surprised and blessed that you hang out with me here in this small corner of the internet. so thankful that our lives (and blogs) have crossed paths.  :)

hey it's ok tuesday

(visit amber, who originated this idea!)

hey, it's ok ...

... to only turn on children's programming that you can sort of stand unless it's an extreme emergency.  a nanny has to keep her sanity.  if that sanity includes strategically leaving out the options "word world" "barney" "cailou" and "yo gabba whatever" when reading off a list, so be it.

... to be thankful for so many things.  and to currently have VERY high on that list: pumpkin spice creamer.

... to be the crazy coupon lady.

... to consider it the success of your day to have turned the tears of a 3 year old who has just wiped out on the hardwood floors to giggles within 2 minutes.

... to be irritated by the dvr'd shows who say "stay tuned for scenes from next week's episode" because you know full well the dvr cut off those previews...

... to be completely weirded out by the idea of the new xray machines at airport.  i get and appreciate that they are amazing new safety things, but i can't say i'm going to enjoy walking through them!

Thursday's Ten: random things you may not know about ...

me!
(ok that sounds self-centered.  there really IS a reason though...read below :)

please join me for this one!  i think i'm going to make it a once in awhile thing (random things about...potatoes.  or penguins.  or random things that start with the letter "p" since i already have 2 on the list ;)

today i'm combining my thursday's ten with accepting a blog award from the lovely casondra

here's the specifics for this particular award:

Rules for accepting this award are:
1.  Thank and link back to the person who gave you the award
thank you Casondra!

2.  Share 7 things about yourself.
done below.  with 3 bonus things :)

3.  Pass this on to 15 other great bloggers you recently discovered.
15 RECENT?  hmmm...

4.  Contact the selected bloggers and tell them about their awards.

So 7 things about myself...

1. pretty much if you offer me chips i'll take you up on that.  huge weakness of mine is crunchy or savory snacks.

2. i can give myself a mean french manicure if all the elements are right.  but i can't for the life of me paint my toenails without getting polish everywhere.  i'm not sure if it's thinking i don't have to pay attention, or a subconscious way to convince myself i should get a pedicure.

3.  i love, love, love my friends.  they're pretty amazing.
(casondra, my things are looking an awful lot like yours but i SWEAR i didn't mean them too!)

4.  i own like 2 lamps.  i don't know why -- i MUCH prefer lamplight to overhead.  i should probably fix that and ask for a lamp or two for christmas.

5. i love telling people i teach at a studio on music row.  if you lived in nashville you would know that's not really a HUGE deal, although the studio being there is quite convenient for industry contacts and the like...but it sounds pretty cool to out of towners.  except you, if you are reading this and didn't know that.  now you won't think i'm cool. oops
(please, if you're a regular reader of my blog you know i'm a big dork anyway ;)

6. my girl crush is olivia benson (mariska hargitay's character on law and order: svu)

7. i can take a good shower in 3 minutes flat (which came in handy during our month of water rationing after the floods in may) and can get ready in less than half an hour.  you would think this would make me early to places.  instead, it means that i literally wait until the last.possible.moment to step into the shower, and i'm ALWAYS running out the door.  i'm getting better about being it, but that fast shower and getting ready bit most definitely works against me.

8. *  i'm kind of jazzed about my new tab at the top -- a link to every.single.recipe i've ever posted on the blog.  it's broken into categories in alpha order, naturally.  there will be many more added, and i'm going to definitely keep it up to date.  honestly, this is going to make it a lot easier for me to direct people to recipes they ask for, or for me to find it and copy/paste :)

9. *  i have discovered strawberry milkshake poptarts, and pretty much i love them.

10. *  i can't WAIT to have a few hours in the kitchen this weekend.  how i've missed cooking!

*bonus tracks ;)

mmmkay, 15 new(ish) blogs.  well, in no particular order (except alpha) here they are!

(oh how i love this blog :)  the song that starts when you visit is an old favorite of mine!)

(funny, funny, funny!  and satire.  and sarcasm.  and funny.)

(a fellow nashvillian, and coupon lover.  plus she has a separate blog just for recipes.  do love!)

(an online friend of mine for ages...military wife and mom doesn't even begin to sum it up!)

(reading her profile, i can SO see mine reading similarly in a few years.  awesome new blog friend!)

(i'm a sucker for anyone who puts "blessed" in their title and means it, and she is wonderful!)

(cheeky, fun and smart, this is a woman i could sit around and talk to for hours!)

(i met her through our friend casondra, and she's such a sweet, amazing new friend!)

(don't you love the name?!  and the blog is just as good)

(one of those like-minded in so many ways bloggers...and she's expecting her first sweet bebe!)

(i love love stories, especially ones like theirs, which is so marked by the Father)

(ahhh, another crazy liberal christian.  see?  we DO exist!)

(this is one of my oldest and dearest friends...and she has a brand new blog!)

(fresh perspective, got her stuff together kinda girl :)

(what a fun life they lead!  so full of adventure and inspiration -- she's an awesome runner!)

i'll be notifying my winners as the day goes on...but if you see your name here, consider yourself served.  in a good way, of course!

hey, it's ok tuesday

one of my favorite bloggers, amber, has been doing this for awhile and today i'm joining her!

hey, it's ok

... to still type in www.cingular.com when going to pay your at&t bill, simply because you liked cingular better
(and it still works, so other people must think it's ok too)

... to sleep in on tuesday because you were up for 20 hours on monday
(that's more than ok.  that's *necessary*!)

... to cry on a fairly regular basis while watching ellen

... to be focused on getting your living area clutter free for the sole reason that you want to put a Christmas tree up stat
(and by "stat" i mean the day after thanksgiving, of course)
... to pretty much subsist on a diet of soups and other hot foods for the next 3 months

... to absolutely HATE the fall back time change.
(seriously, these are the saddest months of my life. getting dark between 4 and 5 is just NOT ok)

... to literally roll out of bed and go to work in yoga pants and a tank top/sweatshirt most days, especially if you change into "real" clothing and put on makeup before you actually see anyone except the 15 month old and his parents -- who are good friends of yours anyway.
(are you telling me you'd do anything different if you had to be at work at 6 am?!)

... to really, really, really miss having a bathtub instead of just a shower stall.  and to really, really, be considering posting a facebook status about trading an hour of free babysitting for an hour of tub time.

... to have loved the oprah show (which you never watch) with the sound of music cast reunion SO much that you're trying to figure out how to get a dvd copy of it since you watched it on someone else's tivo

it's a great day to hike, etc

today is one of those days that i'm going to relish
(funny word, relish.  hmmm)
but yes.  i'll relish every moment
from sleeping in
to NOT teaching a lesson
to hiking at radnor lake with my love
to babysitting for a couple of my favorite kids
(who am i kidding -- i have a LOT of favorites)

so all i have to say is:
allergies be darned...i'm hiking today!

Thursday's Ten: questions for my readers

today is all about interaction!  i'd love it if you message me or comment with your answers to any (and all!) of the following questions :0)

1.  how do you feel about blog rolls?  i just realized the other day that i haven't updated mine in probably 6 months or so, and there are blogs on it that don't even exist anymore!
2.  if you have a positive opinion about blog rolls, would you please message me (msmsctchr@gmail.com) or comment if you'd like to be added to mine?  because i totally need to update/purge/replace it!
3.  what are your favorite sorts of posts to read?  do you like day-to-day posts, recipes, memes, weekly regular features, or those crazy spiritual rants i go on? ;)
4.  what would you like to see more of?
5.  what would you like to see less of?
6.  i won't be taking my tunes off...but would you rather it not start autoplaying when you open the page?  i have moved it to the side so that it's a bit more accessible to turn off if you don't want the music...
but i'll do what majority desires :0)
7.  would you like to guest post here sometime?  if so, let's chat!
8.  what "tab" should i add at the top?  i'd love some ideas!
9.  is there any post of mine that you particularly remember for some reason?  tell me about it :)
10.  and finally...what animal do i remind you of?  or what Bible character...and why?

wishing on wednesday

one of my favorite bloggers does a regular feature that i love...today i'm joining her for the first time!

so, here's what i'm wishful for.  and because i saw a theme with the first couple, i'm just making it a theme :0)

a food processor, a kitchenaid mixer (red please), a cute apron, one of those awesome choppers from williams-sonoma, pampered chef batter bowls and pizza stone.

i'm thinking some of these will be on a wedding registry one of these days ;-) but i may have to get the food processor pronto :0)

so here's the post where i pretend i've not been gone forever

i know, i know.  i posted one week, was gone the entire next week, and came back again for a monday's memory like nothing had happened.

i'm resisting the urge to say "well, it's MY blog" right now.
(actually, since i just typed that i suppose i didn't really *resist* that urge)
but the truth is last week was crazy busy with extra babysitting jobs and getting tax prep stuff done
(yep, i waited until the last possible moment of the extension...i'm betting if you were in my shoes you would as well)

and this week...i had a fantastic and wonderful surprise
it's fall break
for all the kids in this area
and for ME TOO!

because F's parents are teachers
i don't have him this week
and because all of my piano/voice students are metro students
for a myriad of reasons
every.single.one of them canceled this week's lesson

and bonus: i have babysitting jobs scheduled tomorrow, thursday and friday afternoons...friday night and saturday.  so i'll still be making monies, just in fewer days :)

and my google reader?  it's at a big fat ZERO right now
and i'm about to share my secret with you
it's been an amazing discovery for me

the next button

if you don't know about it, you should
because sometimes i read a post in google reader
and don't bother to click over to comment

and with the next button
no, i don't always comment
but i'm right.there if i want to
so it totally saves a step!

so how to find this elusive "next" button?

1.  open google reader
2.  go to "settings" and choose "reader settings" from the menu that will drop down
3.  open the tab that says "goodies"
4.  scroll down until you see this:
5.  follow those instructions
6.  start clicking "next"!

i have a button in my browser for "reader" so that i can easily click back over when i want...and i've made a couple of "next" buttons for specific tags that i want to read before everything else.

and BONUS: i just discovered that if you scroll down a bit on the "goodies" page there's a way to subscribe from your toolbar as well!  i just did it.

thank you, google, for making my life infinitely easier!

It's a great day to be at an awesome conference

just the wordle this week...i'll return to sws next week
i'm at an amazing conference this weekend where God is really moving, so while i've been posting (kind of -- yesterday's was scheduled) i haven't had a chance to keep up with many of your blogs.  i promise once i get back to "normal" i'll be back to visiting and commenting!!

Thursday's Ten: a more positive spin

as i typed in response to a comment last night, yesterday's post was published to remind myself as much as anyone that while i choose joy most days, some days are meant for sadness...and that's actually a healthy response as long as i don't wallow in it!

but i like joy.

don't we all?

and so today's list is going to be things that make my heart sing.  things that take me out of the sadness momentarily, and lift me to a higher place.  and some of them may be a surprise...others, probably not.

1.  car rides with friends
there's something about a trip, whether 10 minutes or 10 hours, that opens up conversation in a way that sitting over a cup of coffee or meeting at a movie theater won't do.  maybe it's the sunlight tickling the corners of the car and shedding light on life itself.  maybe it's that moment when darkness has descended on the day and you feel safe to talk about what's real.  i find that those conversations often continue out of the car and onto my couch...and it's a blessed time.

2.  knowing i am loved
i have a Godly man who reminds me of that multiple times daily.  i have his family who not only say it...they show it.  i have my family who loves me in the best way they can.  i have church familIES who minister to my spirit and soul.  i have friends who will drop everything just to be with me.  and i have perfect strangers who have prophesied words of love and grace over me.
those are just a few examples...and they are all reflections of the Father's love

3.  a baby
i told a lady in class tonight "you don't have to operate in the prophetic to know that i'm drawn to babies!"  and it's true.  there's something about snuggling a little one close...something about hearing those giggles (or in finn's case, those fake coughs!), something about the innocence and trust.  i love reading a book, snuggling in, and putting a baby to bed.  there's something so tender and wonderful about those moments -- i consider them sacred.
and as much as i've loved on everyone else's babes, i am so ready for the day when i rock my own little one before bedtime.

4.  emi
the last few months have made her even sweeter.  i feel like she "checks" on me now -- jumping up on the bed or couch with me when i walk in the door, sometimes even jumping into my lap.  she's never been overly affectionate, so i love those moments

5.  hot coffee
it's been so chilly here lately, and coffee just warms my insides and makes me feel...comfortable.  at rest.

6.  hiking
i haven't done it much lately, and i need to.  sometimes a walk in pure creation, conquering a steep ridge, or just crunching leaves underfoot in a forest is exactly the recharge i need.

7.  the prophetic
i don't pretend to understand it all, and i'm certainly no expert...but going to this class has really highlighted my gifts and given me reassurance and affirmation about areas of my life and personality that i had always questioned.  it's been such an encouragement...and honestly last night's class was the very thing that lifted me -- at least for awhile -- out of the funk i had been in

8.  words
reading your blogs -- they make me laugh, cry, think.
writing in my own -- it gives me a voice, and stretches me to be more authentic and transparent.
words like "restore" "refresh" "renew"... they give me hope.

9.  ethnic foods
i'm a fan of thai in particular...but going to experience the food of another region of the world is somehow enlightening to me.  i don't know -- there's something about the experience that reminds me to treat each day as a new adventure.  maybe that's a stretch or corny or something...but i somehow relate the two

10.  music
of course.  it's my language.  it's how i felt God speaking long before i ever realized that He actually does speak.  it's how i've learned to speak back to Him...long before i ever knew that He cared about what i had to say.  and so it's special.  it's amazing.  and i never go through a day without it, in some way, shape or form.

will you join me in sharing what brings you joy?  if you post something on your blog, will you let me know so i can read it?  if you don't post it on your blog...will you share it in a comment?  i think sharing these things will make God smile today...and it'll certainly make ME smile!
:-)

it's a great day to celebrate 2 years

Anthony and I are celebrating -- 2!

ok, so he's sick (fever and general yuckiness)
but that doesn't mean i won't take him his anniversary card
(we're buying tickets to Les Mis for our joint anniversary gift)
and spend some time with him

likely sitting on his couch
watching 30 rock
and attempting to convince him
to eat something for dinner so that we can eat together
:0)

not exactly how we planned to spend the day
but we'll be together
and that's what matters

happy 2 years, sweetie :)

Welcome, WOW Women! (and men, but women added the alliteration you see...)

Hello all! I'm being featured today at a new favorite site of mine--I discovered it about a month ago and have been so grateful to find a little niche of the blogging world that I can wholeheartedly support and love!

The site is called WOW (Words of Wisdom) and I'm today's featured BON (which sounds like a delicious candy but is actually the abbreviation for Blogger of Note). I'm so incredibly honored to be chosen for this!

I'm supposed to introduce myself. The first post I'm linking to should do a rather good job of that, but here's a quick peek!

I'm Lora, recently turned 29, living in Nashville, Tennessee. I'm a Jesus-lovin, wonderful man dating, liberal, slightly crunchy, healthful (kinda) cooking, recycling wanna-be guru, yogi, clotheshorse, fun loving, just plain loving, living in the moment, eclectic gal. I embrace my ancestry wholeheartedly and try to remember my roots--midwestern (known as a yankee down here in the south though!), German and Irish.
Sláinte!

And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

I truly believe life is all about the journey and those you choose to share it with. And what an incredible ride I'm having! If you've been around the last couple of weeks you'll understand why I'm keeping this intro kind of short (yup, this is short for me! :0) If not, I invite you to read the posts starting March 31 or so on to now. I firmly believe that this is part of my story to share with people at large because GOD deserves the glory for the amazing things that are going on in the midst of a situation most would deem hopeless. A.m.a.z.i.n.g. things girls and guys!

Ok...so I'm literally sitting in a McDonald's parking lot for the wifi signal...and it's 11:42 pm. And my wonderful amazing boyfriend is worried sick that I'm crazy enough to do this, and I promised him I'd leave at midnight. Soooo I'm going to link you to a few posts that will give you a glimpse into who I am...and I will visit you all very soon! (I should have my internet up and running by 4pm today thank GOODNESS! I'm an addict y'all!)

"i'm just me" --all about being real
"today" --again, being real
"the one with..."--memories and laughing
"chicken fajita burgers"--recipes and other home life tips

I look forward to meeting all of you and discovering--or rediscovering--your amazing blogs!

Love to you all,

Who Told You You Were Naked?

one of my favorite bloggers reposted this last week and I had to laugh at the timing.
if you didn't read it last week (or the first time around) it's worth the time. go ahead...i'll wait :0)

i was amazed when i read it again.
you see, the first time i read it (a year or so ago) i was convicted. on the heels of a job loss, with few prospects, i had felt my share of shame and "not good enough-ness".
it helped me put some things in perspective.
and i can honestly say that i was able to put the shame to rest.

last week, on the heels of something i could definitely feel some serious shame about
where i've made some mistakes
that could have some pretty huge ramifications
(even though it's not totally my fault...but it's my fault that i didn't check on the other party's responsibilities....eh, this isn't going to make sense until i just tell you what's going on so never mind)

and even though i told my boyfriend on the phone the night that i found out about what's going down that i felt "stupid" and like i'd failed
(and i may have mentioned that to the minister i spoke with later that night too)
the truth is, except for those initial moments
i haven't felt ashamed
or embarrassed
or alone

i've just felt loved and supported
and like things are going to work out exactly the way they are supposed to.

i guess what i'm saying is that even though i've been told i'm naked

We Interrupt this Regular Blogging to Participate In...

The “Is that contestant on American Idol a Christian? Scorecard”

94. They sing a Carman song during the show = +2 points (Ohhh, stakes are higher here. During the show is where folks get tempted to "dial back" the God a little bit.)

To add up your score with over a 130 other ideas on this scorecard, visit stuffchristianslike.net.

Thursday's Ten: U-Pick 10

Hey all. Coming to you late today. I'm dealing with a lot today, so I'm not really "here"...and am a bit sleep-deprived, so I didn't come up with a fantastic topic like usual (yeah right!)

You know how Panera has the "U-Pick 2" deal? I always get french onion soup and half a sandwich...

Anyway, this is your own U-Pick list. Your topic, your ideas, your blog. I'm going to list 10 random things that are on my mind, but you go with whatever. Ok? :0)

1. I have a 30 before I'm 30 list. Hopefully I'll post it while I'm still 29.
2. I had dinner at 11:45 last night. Mmmm, healthy.
3. Easter is my favorite holiday of the year, candywise at least. (Christmas is really. But Easter has Cadbury mini eggs. And jelly beans. Ahhh)
4. Laffy Taffy has the WORST jokes on their packages. Do 5 year olds work there?
5. When I get a sinus infection my ear piercings get infected. How odd is that?
6. I love shows like "The Middle" and "Parks and Recreation". They did their research on rural Indiana...
7. I could do a 5K every week of the year. It's really hard to limit when there's so many I want to do...but the cost helps me there :-)
8. I did a bracket for the NCAA this year. First year in a long time. I may have caught the basketball bug again...uh-oh
9. I'm loving the Wii. I borrowed Mario Galaxy from a friend and I'm totally addicted (actually Anthony borrowed it, asked said friend if I could borrow it too...does that mean I borrowed it from Anthony or our friend or both?)
10. I've been craving a strawberry Italian cream soda for about a week. Must.find.strawberry.syrup to make one. World Market here I come!

Can I add a bonus? The Windows 7 commercials drive.me.crazy. Could it be because I've switched over to Mac or are they really that DANG ANNOYING?!

Ok. I can't really muster up more than that today. I love you all and still need your prayers and I work through some pretty major stuff.
