hey, it's ok (tuesday) 12.27

hey, it's ok

...to get choked up while watching ellen.  or the soldier appreciation episode of rachael ray.
...to see someone giving design/creative ideas on a talk show and thinK "she totally got that off pinterest"
...to toooootally have baby fever after cuddling our friends 11 week old for an evening
...to have paused everything to watch drew brees break the record last night, and to be genuinely happy for him.
...to talk about football (or hockey) in everyday conversation ;-) and your blog
...to have LOVED your Christmas celebrations, been totally overwhelmed by all the generosity given to you, and to just feel completely blessed by the whole season
...to be glad for a quiet day after Christmas to unwind a bit from ALL that family time, as good as it was
...to have been really spoiled over the long weekend by going to bed (too) late and still getting a solid 7-8 hours of sleep
...to still not understand why people want sweet stuff on their meat.  pass the spice and savory; keep your apples away from my roast

hey, it's ok (tuesday)

hey, it's ok

...to be sooooo sleepy
...to "trap" the baby and yourself upstairs when she decides to climb the stairs, because frankly you're tired of chasing her. either (a) she wants to play upstairs and will be content or (b) realize that she's stuck in the place she chooses if she climbs and not climb as often. either way, we both win :-)
...to be excited about stocking a nice, spacious pantry
...on that note, to be thrilled to be able to move a little at a time.  and YES i know y'all still don't know the story.  it deserves it's own post ;-)
...to be almost a little sad that this phase of the diet is nearly over.  i mean, eating dairy and olive oil again will be really nice.  but i have felt SO.GOOD on this phase, and i know for sure that sugar intake will be MUCH less from this point on
...to really, really, really want to organize your cd collection.  but to realize that it would be pointless since you're going to be merging collections soon anyway...
...to realize that the very nature of moving means that there will be plans needed and organization galore and that means you can be in your happy place for a very.long.time :D

mmmkay, that was a bit boring, no?  sorry...maybe i'll have better things next time around!

what i'm loving wednesday (8.10.11)

i'm loving that my schedule is getting ready to switch up for the FINAL time this year.  i'm going to have a 'normal' weekly schedule which means it will be SO much easier to actually schedule in a life ;-)

i'm loving fresh tomatoes from my garden (and from my dad's since i brought home an entire box last weekend!)

i'm loving the lifestyle changes that this diet has brought.  in my future i see stevia-flavored sweet tea, lower carb menus (at least 2-3 days per week with very few or no carbs), different approaches to cooking in general, and more balance between protein and veggies/fruits

i'm loving getting into a more realistic sleep schedule

i'm loving that we had a fantastic trip to indiana last weekend -- saw people i hadn't seen in years, some great friends, and ended up spending an impromptu evening with some great friends

i'm loving already meal planning with my future hubby.  i think we've come up with a system that will work so that we incorporate favorite recipes, have easy dinner nights, try out new recipes, and not get bored.  oh, and eat out once in awhile too :-)  our 'practice' month will be september

i'm loving our save the dates that we finally emailed a couple of weeks ago.  (feel free to visit our website if you so choose)

it's a great day to try an authentic indian restaurant

my friend natasha and i like to eat
mmm, a lot
and this week she told me that she's discovered a new authentic indian restaurant a few miles away
so, to the lunch buffet we shall head :)

tonight i shall babysit for some regular clients
and then collapse into bed
(if the last couple of nights are any indication, that is!)

may you all have a wonderful weekend...
especially brooke as she kicks her husband's butt in their race ;)
(go #teambrooke!)

may you have many adventures to tell us on monday
if that's what you desire
or many moments of peace and calm
if that's what you crave
and many moments to live in awe
of the life you've been given.

blessings,

hey, it's ok (tuesday) .9

(visit amber for the original)

hey, it's ok

... to wonder if you'll ever get caught up on sleep from the weekend's (good) craziness.
... to look forward to your boss's food network magazine delivery every month...possibly more than she does.
... to have been a little disconcerted to see will i am on sesame street (he was great, by the way...)
... to love the smell of new sharpies and other office supplies.
... to find yourself humming/whistling random kids show songs.  it's annoying, but it's ok.
... to find the irony in the quite overweight woman on npt giving parents advice on how to help their kids eat healthy foods and exercise.  ummm...

february's 3 in 30

i love the idea of this.
3 goals
30 days

it takes 30 days to establish (or break) habits. so this fits completely into that important formula. 3 small bites out of what i want to do...30 days to complete.

so here are my goals for this month. i'll be checking in on fridays...this week is called roll call, so i'm just putting my 3 down and signing in on the link.
  •  exercise at least 4 times each week...and stop using that "busy" excuse!
  •  eat at least 1 fruit and 1 veggie each day
  •  sleep. 6 - 7 hours at LEAST per night. this means when i have to get up at 5:15 (yuuuucccck) i need to be in bed by 11:15 at the LATEST.
(are you reading this sweetie? that means we have to be OFF the phone by then ;) but for REAL.)

i'm looking forward to this month -- should be interesting and FUN!

hey, it's ok (tuesday) .6

hey, it's ok

... to have a giant snowball fight.  in a park.  with some great friends...and a whole lot of strangers :)
... to have wiped out while running a charge in said snowball fight.  and to find out that a whole lot of people may have got it on film.  including 1, 2 or 3 news crews.
... to have slept in approximately every day of break.  hey, when you've got to be at work shortly after 6 am sleeping past 7 is "in"!
... to be contemplating whether or not to chance babysitting tonight...clients live a little out there on a bit of a country road.  could get interesting :)
... to kind of want to take emi outside to get snow pictures.  except that emi HATES snow...

(pics from snowball fight)

(and a video where you'll see me wiping out.  trust me.  you'll see it)

3 in 30

i love the idea of this!  little goals, 3 at a time, for 30 days at a time!
i found the challenge on this amazing blog, undeserving grace and since it's technically too late to join the actual challenge, i'll just post them here and then join for real next month!  hopefully i'll get my 3 in 30 completed so i'll have a brand new set next month!

here are my 3

1.  play the piano daily.  it's on my "30 before 30" list, and honestly it's something i should be doing as a piano teacher ANYWAY!
2.  exercise 5 out of 7 days each week.  i'm shedding pounds at this point, and grateful for it, but it's mainly because i'm MOVING.  so i need to keep that up!
3.  have a more reasonable bedtime.  i have found that 7 hours of sleep seems perfect for me, so that means i may need to be in bed by 10/10:30 on the nights before my early work days.  and you know what?  that shouldn't be a problem.  so my goal is 7 hours of sleep per night every day...with a few days of allowing 6 hours if there's a late night event or something.

join in!  it'll be fun and rewarding :)

it's a great day to hike, etc

today is one of those days that i'm going to relish
(funny word, relish.  hmmm)
but yes.  i'll relish every moment
from sleeping in
to NOT teaching a lesson
to hiking at radnor lake with my love
to babysitting for a couple of my favorite kids
(who am i kidding -- i have a LOT of favorites)

so all i have to say is:
allergies be darned...i'm hiking today!

Fitness Friday: well, that just makes sense

i'll be the first to admit that my sleep cycles are not normal
i'm working on it though
and this last couple of weeks, i HAVE noticed an improvement
besides biting the bullet and actually crawling into bed a bit earlier
the only other thing that's changed is that i'm exercising more

not a LOT more, just more
and then yesterday i stumbled across this article from msnbc
one of the people mentioned states that an hour of exercise can make up for an hour of sleep
so sleep 7 hours, exercise for one
apparently it's the same benefits

erm, i'll have to work up to 7 hours of sleep a night...
but i think that's a definite possibility

especially since my complaint about going to bed earlier is that i can't fall asleep...
same study shows that regular aerobic exercise can improve ability to sleep

well, fall is in the air
time to put on those running shoes!

It's a Great Day to Shop Tax Free

the person who used to host weekend wordles is apparently not doing it anymore...but that won't stop me from posting mine anymore!

It's the Weekend...

Go see Shannon to make your own wordle and link up!

Sleep is all I wanna do.

I have been SO TIRED this week. I blame it on the time change and the subsequent depression I sink into every year...it gets dark before I've left work, and I need my sunshine...I've been trying to keep my head above water, but really...all I wanna do is sleep.

So, sleep this weekend. That's the prescription. Unfortunately I won't be able to do a lot of that :(

Thursday's Ten: True Confessions, Bloggy Style

Confession is good for the soul
And sometimes good for a laugh or two!

Today's Ten is all about confessing. I'm not talking deep dark secrets here (unless you just really wanna)...more of the silly kind of confessing.

Ten Confessions of Mine

1. Sometimes, just for a minute or two, I really think my stuffed animals can hear me and feel things. Guess that child never truly vanished.

2. I love love LOVE McDonalds. I know it's weird, especially for my former ED self, but dangit quarter pounders and sweet tea are the bomb. I DO limit myself to visits. Well, with the burgers at least. Hard to beat $1 for a large sweet tea.

3. I have an unhealthy adoration of ranch dressing. I have been known to lick it off of things and out of containers. It's like this with all condiments--I could eat them on their own. It's just that ranch is my FAVORITE.
(remember the Will and Grace episode with this dialogue?
GRACE: Yes, that's right. You've left me absolutely no time, but I once threw together a dinner party for eight with nothing in the fridge but mustard and a roll of film.

WILL: Yeah, and all we have to remember that evening is double prints of eight angry people getting sick eating mustard soup.

yeah. I could totally do a meal with nothing but my fridge door.)

4. my sleep habits are crap. I've tried to change this. It doesn't work. Something in my body will not allow me to fall asleep before 11:30 pm, and my body's favorite bedtime is 2 am. Which means I need to sleep until 9 or 10 am to get a full night's sleep in. Unfortunately, the US does not operate on that type of clock so I end up being extremely tired all day. I DO try to get to bed in the midnight to 1 am range, but every night is another battle.
(and yes, I've tried pills. But I hate pumping chemicals into my body)

5. I separate candy out by color before eating it.

6. I adore napping. This may or may not be directly related to #4.

7. I looked like this in high school. My how I've changed.

8. When I was growing up I just KNEW someone had broken into our house and if I moved they would kill our family. I would literally wake up to go to the bathroom and lay there frozen until I couldn't wait any longer then SPRINT to the bathroom and back. While I no longer have that hang-up (thank goodness) the memories are vivid.
Yet I can't get enough of crime dramas or movies. Guess it's the police officer blood in my family (dad and brother both have spent time in law enforcement).

9. In fact, if I didn't want to be a mommy more, I would have already followed the steps to entering the FBI. Dream job.

10. Since I can remember, I've always felt that I'm going to have cancer someday. Perhaps it's because my county growing up had a very high rate of cancer.. I've learned that my "feelings" on stuff like this are usually accurate.
(let me be clear...I don't currently have cancer, nor do I think it's going to be the cause of my death. but it DOES explain the fascination I have with it. It doesn't scare me...yet, at least.)

What about you? Grab the TT button, sign McLinky and then... 'fess up!

Thursday's Ten

Lessons Learned this Week

1. When the 2 year old is quiet...FIND OUT WHY.
2. Sometimes miscommunication is simply not your fault. And while I'm really good at beating myself up for things that aren't my fault most of the time...I'm letting it GO.
3. Kids say the darndest things, and there's a lot to be learned from 2 year old wisdom. More about that later this week.
4. Naps are beautiful.
5. Right when I start to worry about money (for the millionth time in the last 12 months)...God provides me with babysitting jobs that all fit nicely into my already scheduled week...without taking time from dates with the man or time carved out for myself. He's reminding me that He really is in charge here...
6. Lilies are beautiful, especially when they're in an arrangement bought for you by a wonderful man.
7. People at church like the boyfriend and me as a unit :)
8. I may never, ever, develop a normal sleep pattern.
9. My hair is growing a LOT (almost long enough for Locks of Love!)
10. No, really. When the 2 year old is quiet, find out why!

I babysat for my friend Jennifer's 2 youngest yesterday. The 2 year old got quiet...in another room. Short version of the story is that she likes fla-vor-ice just as much as I do, and was determined to gnaw her way through it. This resulted in a wardrobe change, as the purple from the popsicle didn't quite match the purple on her shirt.
(she did greet me with a smile when I walked in on the carnage. and was industriously cleaning the floor with a towel. something tells me this was not her first experience.)
